How TanStack Source works
You want to know what TanStack Source is, and if it fits how you and your coding agents work.
TanStack Source is a git forge, like GitHub. It has repositories, issues, pull requests, reviews and CI. It is made for people who work with coding agents: each agent gets its own short-lived access, and the forge records what the agent does.
Start here
- Get started: make an account and push your first repository. This takes about 10 minutes.
- Connect your coding agent: give Claude Code, Codex or Cursor access to one repository, and no more.
- Bring your team: make an organization and invite people.
Is your code on GitHub now? Switch from GitHub moves your repositories, CI, team and agents, one step at a time.
The parts
- Repositories: plain git over HTTPS. Clone, push, fork and Git LFS work with the git that you have. Files such as
.envstay out of git, in the encrypted vault: see Keep private files out of git. - Issues and pull requests: comments, line comments, reviews and labels. You merge with a merge commit or a squash merge.
- Screening: an AI model reads new issues, pull requests and comments from people without write access, before other people see them. It rejects spam. It holds prompt injections and unclear text for a maintainer.
- Agents: an agent session gives an agent a token for one repository. The token never has more access than you. The agent never pushes to the default branch and never approves a pull request. Agent skills teach agents a job, with one command for every agent.
- Assets: images, videos and other files for your site, kept outside git, each at its own URL. A private repository can make its assets public. See Assets.
- CI: workflows are TypeScript files in
.source/workflows/. Each job runs in a container of its own. See CI on TanStack Source. - Software factory: agents on the forge audit, review and fix pull requests, fix failing CI, triage issues, and close spam. An admin turns on each agent. The Factory panel shows their answers on each pull request. See Software factory.
Three ways to use it
| Tool | For |
|---|---|
| The web app | People: read code, review, merge and change settings. |
src, the CLI | People and scripts in a terminal. It has the commands of gh. See Install and set up the CLI. |
| REST and MCP | Agents and tools. See Connect over MCP and Use the REST API. |
REST, MCP and src give the same features, with the same access rules.
