Publish an MCP server

You run an MCP server, or you use one that the marketplace does not list. You want other people, or only your organization, to connect it in one click, with the right URL and the right headers.

Publish a listing. A listing points to the server and says how it signs in. It holds no token: each person who connects the server gives their own.

1. Open the form

  1. Open the MCP server marketplace.
  2. Click Publish a server.

2. Describe the server

  • Owner: your account, or an organization that you own.
  • Name: lowercase letters, digits and dashes. The address of the listing is <owner>/<name>.
  • Description: what the tools of the server do, in a sentence or two.
  • Server URL: the https URL of the server. A local, private or internal host is refused.
  • Docs link: optional. A page where people learn how to get a token.

3. Say how it signs in

Under Credential, select one:

  • Header token: people paste a token, such as an API key. In Header names, type the names of the headers, with commas between them, for example Authorization.
  • OAuth sign-in: people sign in to the server in their browser.

The forge registers itself as an OAuth client with each server. If the server does not let a client register itself:

  1. Register a client with the provider of the server.
  2. Give it the redirect URL https://<forge host>/mcp-oauth/callback, for example https://gitflare.t-zlak97.workers.dev/mcp-oauth/callback.
  3. Type its Client id and Client secret under Pre-registered OAuth client. For a public client, leave the secret empty.

The client secret is stored encrypted, and no page shows it again.

4. Pick who sees it

Under Visibility, select one:

  • Public: everyone can find it in the marketplace.
  • Private: only you can see it, or only the members of the organization.

Then click Publish server.

Done

The listing has its own page at /mcp-servers/<owner>/<name>. On that page, people click Connect to a repository or Connect to an organization, and give their own credential on the next page.

Change or delete a listing

On the listing page, click Edit or Delete. People who connected the server before keep their connection as it is.

Only the account itself, or an owner of the organization, changes a listing. Agent and job tokens cannot publish or change listings.

From the CLI, REST or MCP

src mcp server create acme/linear --url https://mcp.linear.app/mcp --header Authorization -d "Linear issues and projects"
src mcp server search linear
src mcp server view acme/linear
  • --auth oauth makes an OAuth listing. Add --client-id <id> for a pre-registered client.
  • --with-client-secret reads the client secret from standard input, so it does not go into your shell history.
  • --visibility private makes a private listing.
  • src mcp server edit and src mcp server delete change and delete a listing.
  • REST has the same actions under /mcp-servers. MCP has create_mcp_listing, update_mcp_listing and the other *_mcp_listing tools.
